Leitchfield Police have arrested two people after an investigation into a school threat made via Snapchat.
Police began the investigation on Wednesday and were able to identify the suspects rapidly through a response on the app.
According to a press release, investigators began developing a plan to apprehend the suspects to ensure public safety. After intel from Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and Greater Hardin County Narcotics Task Force, officials decided to get additional resources.
Leitchfield Police got further assistance from the Kentucky State Police, ATF, FBI, Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Secret Service. The Louisville Metro Police Department also gave tactical assistance.
Two people were arrested outside of the target location, per the press release. They were charged with second-degree terroristic threatening. The charge stemmed from a threat made against Grayson County High School.
One of the suspects, an adult, was arrested in connection to the phone and potential facilitation and knowledge of the threat that was made.
Authorities believe the threat was made by a juvenile. They believe the juvenile has no known co-conspirators within Grayson County Schools.
Additional search warrants were conducted at a property at the corner of S. Lonnie Lane and Newton Lane in Millwood.
Leitchfield Police, Greater Hardin County Narcotics Task Force, and the ATF seized controlled substances, electronic devices, and several hundred firearms from .22 caliber to .50 caliber rifles and more.
Authorities also recovered parts to manufacture AR15′s in multiple calibers and numerous handguns. Evidence suggests the juvenile had access to these firearms.
The investigation is ongoing into federal and state-level violations.
