Police are investigating after human remains were found in a field behind a residence on Old State Road in Brandenburg Saturday (05/10) afternoon.
Just after 4 p.m., Brandenburg Police Department was dispatched by Meade County E-911 to 1309 Old State Road after a family member located what they believed were human remains in a field behind their residence. Brandenburg Police, along with a deputy with the Meade County Sheriff’s Office, arrived on the scene and confirmed it was human skeletal remains. Officers secured the scene and notified the Meade County Coroner’s Office. Brandenburg Police Department and the Meade County Coroner processed the scene and collected the human skeletal remains. The human remains were transported to the Kentucky Medical Examiners Office in Louisville.
The Brandenburg Police Department does have an open missing person case. At this time, officials cannot confirm that the human remains found are those of the missing person from the area. Investigators are working diligently to gather information to help identify the remains found.
This case is early in the investigation stage and further details will be released once confirmation is received from the medical examiner’s office and the family has been notified.
