A woman who was wrongfully convicted and exonerated years later has reached a settlement agreement with Metro Government.
Metro Government has agreed to pay Johnetta Carr $2.9 million after a lawsuit alleged Louisville Metro Police coerced her testimony. The settlement was signed on Monday.
Carr was 16 years old when she was arrested and charged in a strangling death in 2006.
No DNA evidence tied her to the crime.
Carr was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2009, but then Governor Matt Bevin pardoned her in 2019.
She has spoken in front of Kentucky lawmakers to advocate for the state to start paying people who have been wrongfully convicted in the Commonwealth.
