Developing the next generation of engineers is the goal for the University of Louisville’s new, $90 million student success and research building that opened Thursday as part of the J.B. Speed School of Engineering.
The project was first announced in 2024, garnering $65 million in funding from the state and much of the remaining money from private donors. Several politicians were at the new facility Thursday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, including Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, who said every major industry he speaks with says they need more engineers.
The facility has everything engineering students need all under one roof, including admissions, advising and career prep. The hope is to draw in engineering students from all over the world to produce the next generation of engineers.
The new engineering center coincides with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Speed School.
