A car crash led to a fire at an apartment complex off Westport Road Tuesday afternoon, according to officials.
Louisville police said around 4:07 p.m. on December 16, officers responded to the report of an injury accident at the intersection of Westport Road and Langdon Drive. Their initial investigation showed two vehicles crashed together in a T-bone fashion, which caused one of the cars to leave the roadway, where it then hit a gas line and crashed into an apartment building.
Police said the building then caught on fire, leading officers to begin evacuating residents. No one inside the apartments was reported injured, and no officers were injured.
Crews spent some time seeing the extent of the damage to the complex, but officials said the roof of the apartment building collapsed, and both floors experienced heavy damage.
LG&E was on scene to shut the gas off.
TARC sent two buses to the apartment to help provide heat and temporary shelter for residents until the Red Cross arrived.
One driver was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the other driver was treated for injuries at the scene, according to Louisville Metro Police Department.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but no charges are expected at this time, according to police.
