Heavy rain and strong winds battered Central Kentucky and Southern Indiana Sunday night into Monday morning prompting several tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings.
A line of strong storms raced through the area leaving much property damage, downed power lines, toppled trees and broken limbs. The storms also caused major power outages across the region.
Many areas in Meade and surrounding counties had roofs blown off, buildings demolished, trees across the roads in several areas, and utility poles blown down.
Crews from the National Weather Service surveyed the damage across the region on Monday in an effort to determine if the damages resulting from straight line winds or tornados.
Mike Kochasic with the National Weather Service said the timing and force of the storms should serve as a wake-up call and urges people to be ready for more in the coming months.
Kochasic said tornadoes at night are definitely a thing to be careful about, and make sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings. He said this is only March and we are just starting into the spring season.
Meade County emergency officials said one person was hurt. They warned people to use caution when cleaning up debris and to never touch downed power lines.
