On Monday, June 15, the Jefferson County prosecutors’ office shared that, Nathan Stotts was indicted on the charges of Manslaughter in the second degree, and one count of Reckless Homicide.
The Grand Jury found a “no true bill” on the count of Murder, which requires a level of intent or wanton behavior that could create a grave risk of death.
Stotts is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The indictment of Stotts comes after he shot and killed Martin Nitzken, Jr. on May 30 in the Klondike neighborhood on Cromarty Way. Nitzken was accused of assaulting three people during a mental health crisis. According to police video, Nitzken appeared to be unarmed and compliant at the time of the shooting.
Less than a week after initiating the process to terminate him from the Louisville Metro Police Department, Chief Paul L. Humphrey accepted the resignation of Nathan Stotts.
Stotts will be arraigned on Monday, June 22.
