A man was arrested early Sunday morning after police say he tried to assault on officer with his belt, kicked another in the chest, while also causing damage and assaulting another person at a nearby gas station.
Brandon Hinton, 36, is facing the following charges, according to court documents:
Criminal mischief (first degree)
Robbery (second degree)
Disorderly conduct (second degree)
Assault of a police officer (third degree)
Resisting arrest
Menacing
Alcohol intoxication in a public place
At about 2:45 a.m., Louisville Metro Police officers responded to a call regarding an intoxicated and disorderly subject who was swinging his belt at cars, according to his arrest citation.
Officers later located the subject, identified as Hinton, at the intersection of Johnsontown Road and Thompson Lane in the Valley Station neighborhood of Louisville.
Police say as they attempted to make contact with Hinton, he was uncooperative and backed up while holding his belt as if it was a weapon. As police attempted to detain him, he charged at one officer in an attempt to strike them with his belt, according to court records.
According to arrest records, the officer tazed Hinton effectively, and the officers on scene were able to get him in handcuffs.
As they tried to walk Hinton to their car, police say Hinton then kicked the officer who tazed him in the chest area. Another officer executed a rear takedown, and they were able to later gain compliance and place him in the back of the car, according to court records.
During the altercation, a call for service came from the Circle K on Dixie Highway just down the street on a subject that assaulted someone with their belt, according to the arrest citation.
At 2:30 a.m., just before the altercation, police say Hinton entered the gas station and attempted to steal a Modelo. As the store clerk tried to verbally stop him, Hinton allegedly replied, “this is my store!”
Another person in the store attempted to stop Hinton, but he is then alleged to have started hitting the person with his belt and closed fists.
Police say after exiting the Circle K, Hinton allegedly struck the door window with his belt, causing it to break and cause roughly $1,500 in damage.
Hinton is currently being held at Louisville Metro Department of Corrections. He is expected in court for his arraignment on October 12.
