Breckinridge County Fiscal Court voted to extend the existing moratorium on data center for an additional twelve months during their regular meeting Monday (10/19) morning.
Magistrates have been asked in previous recent meetings to take action on the issue. County leaders had remained hesitate to make a public motion due to being in current litigation related to a moratorium to proposed solar project in the county that had been awaiting a ruling from the state supreme court.
During the discussion at Monday’s meeting, Breck United Executive Director Meredith Dubree said rumors that a data center is planning to come to Breckinridge County are false. She said the county is currently unable to provide the power needed to operate any large scale data centers.
Breckinridge County joins several government agencies around the state and region, who have attempted to put measures in place to allow further research of information related to the impacts caused to communities by data centers.
