
Meade County Board of Education met for their regular monthly meeting Tuesday evening with all members present.
Superintendent Dr. John Millay advised the board members the schematic design for the renovation and addition of the Area Technology Center has been sent to the Kentucky Department of Education in Frankfort for approval. Millay said a group from the school system have visited with regional industry and Elizabethtown Community Technical College, as well as, numerous businesses and facilities to help plan the very best programs for the students of Meade County.
Superintendent Millay told the board the non-traditional instruction packets have been prepared and are ready to be sent home with students in the event of inclement weather. After the first 3 days of missing school, the non-traditional instruction program will be activated. Teachers will be in contact with parents with detailed instructions about how the program works. The district is allowed to use 10 non-traditional instruction days, if needed, to eliminate the need to make up the missed days in the classroom.
The board approved the disposal of 17 two drawer file cabinets that are no longer needed at Central Office and a propane greenhouse heater as surplus items. The greenhouse heater will be donated to the Meade County Fair Board to be used in a building on the fairgrounds where the Archery Team practices. The Fair Board will be responsible for moving the and hooking up the heater.
In other business the board approved the 2016-2017 school calendar with August 10, 2016 being the first day of school for the students. Fall Break will be the first week in October. Christmas Break will be the last two weeks of December and Spring Break will be the first week in April 2017.
