A chase in Hopkins County Saturday (3/19) resulted in gun fire between an ATV driver and Kentucky State Police trooper.
Just before 3 p.m. a trooper from Post 2 in Madisonville was involved in a chase with an ATV that ended on Dragline Road.
The driver of the ATV lost control and it overturned. At that point, police say the driver pulled out a handgun and fired shots at the trooper.
The trooper returned fire hitting the ATV driver, according to the Kentucky State Police.
The driver of the ATV was pronounced dead on the scene by the Hopkins County Coroner.
The Trooper was not injured during the altercation.
The incident remains under investigation.
