A LaRue County Detention Center employee was arrested and charged Tuesday night with selling drugs, including heroin.
Bradley Russell, 43 of Hodgenville, faces three counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance of heroin, hydrocodone and oxycodone, and possession of drug paraphernalia. His ex-wife also faces charges in the case.
The investigation was initiated when Greater Hardin County Drug Task Force detectives were contacted about allegations that Russell was bringing drugs into the detention center.
With the assistance of LaRue County Jailer Johnny Cottrill, detectives were able to introduce an undercover officer to Russell, according to a task force news release. Russell reportedly met with an undercover officer Tuesday at the park-and-ride lot in Elizabethtown and was paid with 10 oxycodone pills to deliver 2.3 grams of heroin and 21 oxycodone pills into the LaRue County Detention Center.
Cottrill said Wednesday afternoon Russell, who had been employed at the detention center less than three months, was fired earlier in the day.
His ex-wife, 35 year-old Kimberly Russell of Shepherdsville, was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance of hydrocodone and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She brought 21 hydrocodone pills to trade for seven oxycodone pills, according to the task force news release. She had an additional 97 hydrocodone pills with her at the time of the arrest, according to authorities.
Bradley Russell is lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center in lieu of $10,000 partially secured bond. He is to appear at 9 a.m. May 19 in Hardin District Court.
Kimberly Russell was released on a $10,000 unsecured bond Wednesday. No court date has been set for her.
