A Meade County resident, who formerly ran for Congress, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder of a police officer.
Ronald A. Leach, 56, was arrested Monday evening at his residence on Buck Grove Road in Ekron.
Attempted murder is a Class B felony punishable by 10 to 20 years, if convicted. Leach also faces a misdemeanor charge of fourth-degree assault, domestic violence.
He was arraigned Wednesday in Meade District Court with bond set at $250,000 cash. A preliminary hearing is set for October 28.
Meade County Sheriff Phillip Wimpee said officers were attempting to serve paperwork Monday related to a domestic violence accusation. Leach reportedly got into his pickup truck and tried to run down the deputies.
Leach, who lived in Brandenburg at the time, was the Democratic nominee for the 2nd Congressional District seat in 2014 and two years later sought his party’s nomination for U.S. Senate. Both attempts were unsuccessful.
