A Hopkinsville man is facing multiple charges after trying to flee from police on a bicycle.
On May 4, Christian County Sheriff’s deputies saw 46-year-old Kenneth Lancaster riding an electric bicycle without proper lighting on East 9th Street.
Deputies approached him near Shawnee Drive, where he had stopped to inflate a tire. While deputies were checking his information, he fled the scene on his bicycle, ignoring repeated commands to stop.
During the chase, deputies observed a plastic item being discarded near the intersection of Skyline Drive. Lancaster continued to flee until he collided with a patrol vehicle on Calvin Drive, where he was taken into custody.
According to the sheriff’s office, Lancaster was found to be in possession of suspected synthetic marijuana or ‘spice’, drug paraphernalia, and a capped hypodermic needle.
A plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine was later recovered from the area where deputies saw an item thrown during the chase.
Lancaster told deputies he fled because he had outstanding warrants. Those warrants were confirmed to be for non-payment of fines in Christian County.
He was arrested and lodged in the Christian County Jail on the following charges:
Failure to Comply with Bicycle Safety Regulations
Fleeing or Evading Police, 2nd Degree (on foot)
Tampering with Physical Evidence
Possession of Synthetic Drugs – 2nd or Subsequent Offense
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Possession of a Controlled Substance, 1st Degree, 2nd Offense (Methamphetamine).
