The University of Kentucky fired the former equine testing lab director over ethics and policy violations related to misconduct and mismanagement of the lab.
Thursday, the university said in a news release Scott Stanley was removed as a tenured faculty member of the university.
His firing comes after a yearlong internal audit discovered a test commissioned by the Horseracing Integrity and Welfare Unit (HIWU) was never performed, but Stanley reported test results.
The findings from the investigation also uncovered other test results may have been compromised because of Stanley.
Investigators said Stanley chose not to disclose external work, violating university rules. The Board of Trustees charged Stanley with the following violations:
Failure to perform duties: Misrepresentation, falsification of test results and fraudulent billing
Failure to perform duties and/or incompetence: Lack of internal controls (to prevent tampering and manipulation of data) and lack of oversight of EACL operations
Failure to perform duties and/or incompetence: Conflicts of interest/commitment and improper hiring practices
Stanley waived his right to a hearing, and the Board of Trustees held a special session Thursday, voting to end his tenure and terminate him as a university employee.
