The final men convicted in Crystal Rogers’ murder will soon be sentenced to prison after a month-long delay.
Following a nine-day trial in July, Brooks Houck and Joseph Lawson were convicted in the Bardstown woman’s 2015 disappearance and assumed murder.
Houck, Rogers’ ex-boyfriend, was found guilty of murder (principle or accomplice) and tampering with physical evidence. Lawson was found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence.
The jury recommended both men serve the maximum prison sentence: life in prison for Houck and 25 years for Lawson.
Houck and Lawson’s sentencing is expected to begin at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17.
Sentencing for both men was originally scheduled for August 21, however Nelson County Judge Charles Simms pushed it back due to Lawson’s ongoing serious health issues.
During Wednesday’s hearing, Simms will likely take up any pending motions.
Lawson’s attorneys still have two pending motions, including one to set aside his guilty verdict or grant him a new trial.
