Kentucky lawmakers are moving forward with restoring the state’s death penalty despite Governor Andy Beshear’s veto.
On Tuesday, the General Assembly overrode Beshear’s veto of Senate Bill 251.
The bill allows the Department of Corrections to set execution procedures through internal policies, which must be published publicly online.
In March, Coleman’s office argued before a Franklin Circuit Court to dismiss a 2006 case which is at the center of Kentucky’s 15-year ban on executions.
A dismissal would pave the way for more than 20 executions in Kentucky.
There are 24 inmates on Kentucky’s death row, according to Attorney General Russell Coleman.
