As the war in Iran continues, Governor Andy Beshear is taking steps to help Kentucky families struggling with rising gas prices.
This week, Governor Beshear signed an emergency regulation to freeze the gas tax at 26.4 cents per gallon.
This comes ahead of an expected increase on July 1st and is anticipated to save Kentuckians about $1.7 million, combined, each month.
Beshear also signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency, which will reduce the gas tax by 10 cents.
To ensure providers don’t pocket the money, Governor Beshear activated the state’s price-gouging statute.
In addition to these steps, state officials say Beshear sent two letters urging Congressional leaders to suspend the federal gas tax until the end of the year.
