According to a press release, Owensboro-Daviess County Central Dispatch was notified of an automatic cell phone crash notification hitting in the 8400 block of Knottsville-Mount Zion Road on Wednesday around 9:35 p.m.
Dispatch says they were unable to reach anyone when they attempted to contact the subscriber.
When emergency crews arrived on scene, they located a pickup truck that had hit a tree, causing severe damage to the vehicle.
Landon R. Morris, 21, of Knottsville, had to be extracted from the vehicle by firefighters.
Officials said Morris was transported to the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital Emergency Department by ground ambulance where he eventually died.
An investigation indicated that Morris was eastbound on Knottsville-Mount Zion Road when he left the roadway for unknown reasons and hit a tree head-on that was near the edge of the road.
No other vehicles were involved.
They say drugs and alcohol don’t appear to have been a factor in the crash.
The roadway was closed for approximately two hours during the investigation.
