Elizabethtown police are warning residents about a scammer who posed as an employee of the U.S. Department of Justice.
Police said the scammer told a victim to withdraw a substantial amount of cash from a bank account, claiming the U.S. Marshals Service would come to the victim’s home to collect it.
The victim recognized something was wrong and asked a family member for help before any money was lost, according to police.
Elizabethtown police said no legitimate law enforcement agency will instruct someone to withdraw cash, purchase or transfer prepaid cards, send digital currency or provide financial account information.
Anyone who receives a suspicious call from someone claiming to be with law enforcement can contact Elizabethtown Police at 270-765-4125 for help verifying the caller.
