A modular housing manufacturing company based in England has announced they are opening their first facility in the U.S. in Louisville’s Parkland neighborhood.
Leaders of MMY US were joined by Mayor Craig Greenberg, Governor Andy Beshear and Metro Councilwoman Tammy Hawkins at the site of the facility at 1344 Beech Street. MMY US has a 10-year lease with an option to purchase on the five-acre site.
A media release by Greenberg’s office says the facility will create 73 new jobs and produce up to 500 units per year. The modular homes will be delivered in 16 weeks which is five times faster than traditional construction.
MMY US has committed to hiring at least 51% of its workforce from Louisville and will give preference to applicants from the nine neighborhoods that make up West Louisville. Employees will be paid an average wage of $30 per hour and a minimum of $23 per hour, before benefits.
The company will also provide on site childcare from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. as an aid for working parents.
