A state of emergency has been declared after severe weather swept through the commonwealth Thursday and Thursday night.
At least one tornado was confirmed in Milton, Kentucky. However, multiple Kentucky and southern Indiana counties have reported damage.
Governor Andy Beshear says the declaration will allow the state to further help affected communities and families that were impacted by the storm. In a release sent from his office, General Butler State Resort Park has been opened to shelter those in need. There are currently 33 people there.
Price gouging laws have been activated to protect Kentuckians from overpriced goods and services as communities recover from the storms. With the state of emergency in place, consumers in the commonwealth can report price gouging to the Office of the Attorney General. Under state law, price gougers can be held accountable.
