
Widespread early voting begins across Kentucky Thursday for this year’s primary election.
“No-excuse early voting” begins in Kentucky’s 120 counties on Thursday, May 16, and runs through Saturday, May 18.

The primary election serves to narrow down a field of candidates to one, who will then face the opposing party’s candidate in the general election. Kentucky’s primary election this year will be held officially on Tuesday, May 21.
Primary elections are now typically held on the third Tuesday in May of even-numbered years, unless otherwise provided by law.
Kentucky voters must show some form of identification when arriving at a polling location to vote.
State or federal documents showing the name of the individual to whom the document was issued and a photograph of the individual to whom the document was issued are acceptable.
A driver’s license is an acceptable document at polling locations as well as some documents issued by colleges and universities.
Polling locations are also utilized now rather than mandatory precinct locations. Voters may vote at several places within their residing county.
