Louisville Metro police confirmed new information in the death investigation of 18-year-old David “Dee” Martinez, who was found shot to death by the railroad tracks along Allmond and Louisville Avenue over Mother’s Day weekend.
On Friday, Louisville Metro Police Department released body-camera footage of two deadly officer-involved shootings. One of those shootings happened on May 14 in the Wilder Park neighborhood near South 3rd Street and Kenton Street. Detectives said a 17-year-old believed to be connected to one of the homicides from that weekend was inside a store.
When officers tried to approach the teen when he walked out of the store, he flashed a gun and ran. In the body camera footage, police tackle the suspect, trying to get the gun from him. Officers told him multiple times to let go of the gun and that if he did not, they would release a K-9.
In the video, the teen was holding the gun underneath him, pointing it at a residence. When he fired a shot, one of the responding officers shot him. Officers performed life-saving measures before he was taken to the hospital, where he died just days later.
During Friday’s press conference, Deputy Chief Steve Healey said investigators took the shell casing fired at the scene by the teen and confirmed through testing that the firearm was the same one used in the homicide of Martinez. The suspect was charged with Martinez’s death before he died.
