When Congress passed the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024, it included hundreds of millions of dollars for Kentucky-based defense funding.
The Kentucky National Guard will see a lot of that money, resulting in new facilities across the state.
That includes, but is not limited to, a vehicle maintenance facility in Boone County, a new machine gun range in Muhlenberg County and improvements at the Kentucky National Guard headquarters in Frankfort.
Thursday, Senator Mitch McConnell and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear spoke with service members in Frankfort about the importance of funding national security.
”Funding preparedness is a lot cheaper than than funding a war,” said
McConnell said in World War II, we were up to 37% of our GDP in defense spending. Right now, we’re spending 2% and that number needs to come up.
Other benefactors of the federal funding will include Fort Knox and Fort Campbell.
