A federal jury has found a Warren County man guilty of supporting ISIS.
Mirsad Hariz Adem Ramic, 34, of Bowling Green, was convicted of providing material support to ISIS, conspiring to provide material support, and receiving military training from the group.
In June 2014, Ramic and two others left the U.S. for Istanbul, Turkey, then traveled to Gaziantep near the Syrian border. They crossed into Syria and joined ISIS, where Ramic received military training.
Ramic and his co-conspirators also discussed jihad, martyrdom, and fighting for ISIS, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Kentucky.
Evidence showed him in camouflage with an anti-aircraft gun and the ISIS flag, and he participated in fighting in Kobane, Syria.
Prosecutors said Ramic has dual U.S.-Bosnian citizenship.
Ramic has been in federal custody since December 2021 after being deported from Turkey. He is being held in the Warren County Regional Jail without bond.
His sentencing is set for September 24, 2024. He could face up to 50 years in prison, a $750,000 fine, and lifetime supervised release.
The FBI investigated the case.
