The owner of a Kentucky dealership accused of selling cars it never paid for was charged with two counts of theft.
Investigators said Friday that George Richardson turned himself in. According to court records, Richardson is out of jail after posting a $450 bond.
Richardson is behind Richardson Auto Mart in Bardstown, which has been under investigation by the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office over reports it wouldn’t turn over the titles to vehicles it had sold.
Richardson was arrested on a warrant out of Boone County, Indiana. Court records say the Indianapolis Car Exchange sold cars to Richardson, who wrote nearly $48,000 worth of checks that all bounced.
Records from the Kentucky Secretary of State show Richardson Auto Mart LLC is inactive and in bad standing.
According to court records, Richardson works as a semitruck driver. The judge in Indiana granted his request to travel to Kentucky, where he lives, and to travel to other states for his job while he is out on bail.
Richardson’s trial is scheduled for August.
