The local community kicked off the Independence Day holiday weekend with a visit from the traveling Vietnam War Memorial Wall made a stop in Brandenburg.
The 70-piece exhibit, which travels across the country, displays the names of men and women who died during the Vietnam War. The Meade County Chamber of Commerce, local businesses and other sponsors organized the visit as part of celebrations marking the country’s 250th birthday.
Lisha Duke Executive Director of the Meade County Chamber of Commerce, said the exhibit is veteran-owned and is based in Texas. Each panel weights about 90 pounds each. Volunteers worked just over an hour to put the sections together on the service driveway of Brandenburg Telephone lot. A ceremony was held Friday (7/3) to officially open the display and provide a tribute to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to support the freedoms that our nation holds dear.
The display also has informational panels that provide information about other conflicts and a P.O.W. table in remembrance of those who have never came home. The wall display is open 24 hours until Sunday afternoon.
